The game is split evenly between present and future levels. Although all weapons have unlimited ammunition, only two can be carried at a time and, if killed, the currently equipped weapon is lost. RoboCop starts the game with a basic pistol, but other weapons can be found, such as grenade launchers and flamethrowers, laser guns, self-guided missiles and others. Many enemies stand in RoboCop's way and must be destroyed using 8 different weapons. The game is a platformer with strong shooting elements and consists of 10 levels. Years later, in a post-apocalyptic future, RoboCop is reactivated and must help the human resistance by attacking and defeating Skynet once and for all. By tapping into the computer network, he becomes the seed from which the malevolent Skynet grows. The player controls RoboCop, who during his police work on the streets of Detroit falls into a trap of Terminators sent from the future. RoboCop versus The Terminator on Sega systems is only loosely based on the comic. The crossover of the two famous 80's cyborgs in the Dark Horse comic book led to several game adaptations.
